Shanique and Tamara are excited about this new venture, and hope you will be too!  They are inviting you on a journey with them, where they will share their stories, have discussions and speak on things that are a part of their everyday lives.




Shanique

Shanique is a Jamaican woman, mother, sister and friend. She is a Master of Social Work graduate and Child Protection Worker.  She has been in the field of social work for over 13 years and is passionate about advocacy, especially for people from marginalized communities. In 2010 Shanique published a poetry book entitled “Me in You”. This book explored themes such as domestic violence, poverty and crime. As a Dub- Poet, actress, writer and prayer warrior, Shanique is enthused about sharing a part of her life with you. 






Tamara
 Tamara is also a Jamaican woman.  She is a Master of Human Resources Management graduate and Manager in the Social Services field. She is testing her skills at writing, as she feels that she has much to contribute to others, through the lens of her daily life. She is passionate about children, family and friendships.  Tamara is a sister and a friend. She is married for 13 years and is the mother of 3 children. She holds leadership positions within her church community and has experience in building and sustaining productive teams.


This is an invitation to you, to read their bi-weekly blog. This blog is intended for everyone; men, women, young, old, people from every creed, country or culture. Their goal is to impact everyone, through discussion on topics or issues that either they or their readers are interested in. In doing so, they hope to enlighten, provoke thought, inform or cause readers to recognize that they are not alone.

Look out for topics such as:  “Watch Out World “, “Warrior Inside of Me”, “Raising Children” and many more.

"Santa Claus, do you ever come to the ghetto?” “Santa Claus, do you ever wonder why we suffer so?”   As children, we would always hear my mother singing this popular Jamaican song by Carlene Davis. It was one of her favourites.   Our reality was that Santa Claus did not visit us in the ghetto. Instead of the joy associated with this fictional character, we grew up seeing people dying on our streets.   Let me give you a glimpse into my life growing up in Jamaica. My family lived in a community called 'Jungle' which was located in Trench Town, St. Andrew. There, many young boys would turn to gang violence, many girls became impregnated at a young age, while domestic violence and blaring gunshots were the norm.           Regularly, we would awake in the mornings to hear about another man or woman who had been gunned down.
